Had a lot of fun with this one. I was worried about painting the complexity of the train engine for awhile now (I’ve never tackled one before and mechanical things aren’t my strongest suit) but I jumped in with a large brush and didn’t let myself make it smaller for a long time.
It helped. I started to work out what really mattered in all of those details. It’s amazing how that kind of approach – only allowing yourself to deal with the big picture – can help you find the direction that’s truly important in something. I think it goes beyond painting.
And look! Whose feet are those?
Hey this is great! I had no idea you were doing this project; I had only seen one of the images before but didn’t know it was a webcomic. Good to see some of your new work! Come back to Mica, we miss you!

Ahh, Maggie! Thank you! I miss you guys, too. I keep feeling the lure of teaching and my life is calming down a little. Maybe next semester?
Yes, please come back before I graduate! It’ll be my last year next year…. you should definitely let us know if you’re coming back so we can all jump on getting your class!
